This is a readable account of the individuals and circumstances concerning the fledgling United States and the Barbary pirates. I think he is probably one of the best directors of French NEW WAVE. It is exceptionally well written generally presenting its narratives in a serious vein but almost always with a light touch. Don't reject this book because of it's number of pages, read it, because it is a great book. I'm not a big fan of Carlson's writing style, but it isn't a novel, it works for what it does. Their relationship is very sweet - and their first date is adorable. Abraham Lincoln would have approved.
