I actually fell for all the characters and really enjoyed how the stories went and would love to read more about them. But my main problem was that the sidebars consistently interrupted the flow of the story. During the story he learned the idiom meanings. I then went to Amazon to order the rest of the series. Not only does this book take you through the plight of Geronimo Pratt, but it also sheds light on those who tirelessly aided him and fought for his release. Edward Bonner has compiled poems that encompass every aspect of his life so far, from childhood up until his current age. I bought this book for sentimental/humor reasons. The book proceeds along in good depth all the way to this millenium and is well illustrated with a lot of captioned photographs (black and white unfortunately - to keep costs down I think). This one felt extra short and i didnt want it to end. However, there were plenty of comedic elements that kept the mood light, despite the relatively heavy premise to start the novel. And then she decides she wants to be Dean's girlfriend, and Jake is okay with this. It would have been better if it were about 50 pages shorter. He brings to life this part of England with its conflicts between the modern and old with an easy, fluent style. It kept my attention throughout. A renowned futurist offers a vision of a reinvented world. Unfortunately, the way the findings are reported makes it extremely difficult to follow the argument.
